Beef Industry

The cattle and calf industry for slaughter in Queensland is valued at about $3.28 billion, according to the Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation. In 2010-2011, around 3.58 million head of cattle and calves were slaughtered in Queensland. The live export sector in the northern parts of the State has been currently valued at about $81 million, a figure significantly lower due to Federal policy decisions around the trade.

The beef cattle industry is a significant economic driver for vast tracts of Queensland, across a range of climates and production systems. More details on beef production in Queensland can be found via Meat and Livestock Australia.
