JOANNE GRAINGER NEW QFF PRESIDENT

6 September 2011

THE Queensland Farmers’ Federation has today welcomed southwest Queensland cotton grower, Joanne Grainger, as the organisation’s new president.

At the QFF annual general meeting today, Ms Grainger was elected unopposed to lead the peak rural lobby group.

QFF CEO Dan Galligan said Joanne brought a long list of achievements in rural industry and agricultural politics to the role and that the organisation would benefit from her extensive experience and dedication.

As well as having served as QFF vice-president, Ms Grainger is a past chair of Cotton Australia and sits on the board of the National Farmers’ Federation. She also sits on the Queensland Workplace Health and Safety Advisory board.

She farms at Mungindi on the Queensland/NSW border and has been running a successful farming and irrigation enterprise there with her husband, Jon, for the last 30 years.

Ms Grainger said that with several major policy issues on the immediate agenda, it would be a challenging and rewarding time to step into the shoes as president.

Ms Grainger has taken on the role from long-serving immediate past president, Gary Sansom.

The Queensland Farmers’ Federation is a collective voice for Queensland farmers, and is an overarching voice for the intensive agriculture sector for its member organisations.
