Food Policy
Both the State and the Federal governments have announced their intention to develop overarching food policies. This has been a long-standing policy objective which QFF have been advocating. Queensland has Acts that cover many aspects of running a farm business and there are also policies and ‘blueprints’ for other major industries, such as minerals and gas extraction. But it has been a glaring omission that the government has not worked with the food industry and food, fibre, and foliage producers to develop a policy such as this.
QFF is working with governments to ensure that these policies are developed in a way that ensure this policy delivers positive outcomes for farmers, food processers and regional communities. Unless government policy recognise that agriculture must be an integral part of the future of this country then policy decisions will continue to erode the capacity to produce food, fibre and foliage.
