Outstanding land managers, extension officers, organisations and members of the community working to reduce their impact on the iconic Great Barrier Reef will have more time to apply for the 2018 Reef Champion Awards.
Nominations for the Awards, run by the Reef Alliance with support from the Australian and Queensland governments, have now been extended until 20 September 2018.
Queensland Farmers’ Federation (QFF) CEO Travis Tobin said the new closing date ensures busy individuals and organisations excelling in their efforts to help safeguard the Reef had a bit more time to be recognised and encouraged them to apply.
“We have received some excellent nominations from those working to improve land management practices, and we would like to give more potential applicants the opportunity to be acknowledged.”
“Farmers, with the support of extension officers and their communities, play an essential role as land managers and it is important to acknowledge and celebrate those who are excelling in their role as environmental stewards,” Mr Tobin said.
