- It is National Farm Safety Week, with 2024’s theme being ‘In Safe Hands’. The National Farmers’ Federation (NFF) has recently endorsed an Australian Parliamentary petition to ensure minimum standards for train lighting to improve safety on regional roads. Read more here.
- The Australian Government is investing $6.9 million to prepare Australia for avian influenza (AI) and the threat posed by the H5N1 strain that is currently causing significant impacts overseas. But are we investing enough? With modelling suggesting a 7% increase in the risk of AI outbreaks for each 25% shift from indoor to free-range production systems, is greater support needed as government policy forces more egg production into free range systems upping the risk of bird flu? - Farmers, advocates, regulators and developers converged in Toowoomba and Miles in recent weeks for the National Renewables in Agriculture Conference and the Queensland Community Renewables Forum respectively. At both events, QFF’s Queensland Renewable Energy Landholder Toolkit was highlighted as a much-needed resource with emphasis placed on the need for farmers to be enabled to make informed decisions regarding their land use.
- Queensland Fruit & Vegetable Growers (QFVG) have been delivering their Tricks of the Trade – Negotiation Tactics Masterclass series since the end of June and have recently shared some grower feedback on the two-day Masterclass. Read more here.
- Award recipients have been announced for Cotton Australia’s Click 24 Photography Competition, with nearly 300 entries from across the country. See them here. The winning entries will be displayed at the Cotton Australia stand during the Australian Cotton Conference and all in attendance will have the opportunity to vote for the last category to be decided: the People’s Choice Award.
- EastAUSmilk has secured funding through the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries to improve technology uptake on dairy farms, offering 25% of total tech cost up to a maximum of $15,000 ex GST, per dairy business. Read more here.
