10 Things to Know from QFF – 20 May 2019

  1. QFF has congratulated Prime Minister Scott Morrison and the Liberal-National Coalition on being re-elected at the weekend’s Federal Election. Read the media statement HERE.
  2. With the federal election now resolved, many farmers are still looking for a little reassurance that minor but vital policies for the competitiveness and prosperity of the sector are rock solid for the 46th QFF’s QCL column HERE.
  3. QFF corporate partner Telstra has commissioned a survey to understand farming challenges to help shape and develop better Internet of Things solutions. Telstra will donate $5 to the Salvation Army for each person who completes the survey. Participate HERE.
  4. QFF industry member Growcom has recently announced the appointment of Richard Shannon as its new Manager, Policy & Advocacy. Despite the challenges of growing fruit, vegetables and nuts in Queensland he enters the role with great optimism. Details HERE.
  5. The Gasfields Commission has recently released The Gas Guide which includes all the information landholders need to know about gas development in one document covering everything from the awarding of exploration permits through to rehabilitation of the gas field. Check it out HERE.
  6. The Queensland Land Access Map helps landholders and their agents understand where to go for help no matter where they are in their land access journey, and where various services – including the new Land Access Ombudsman – fit in. Download it HERE.
  7. It is crucial any debate on farming and agricultural chemicals is based on scientific evidence and independent assessment, so it’s necessary to separate fact from fiction on the use of glyphosate. Get the facts HERE.
  8. The Bureau of Meteorology has revised its ENSO Outlook to “El Niño Watch” meaning the chance of an El Niño forming is now 50 per cent or roughly double the normal risk. Check out the Farmer Disaster Support website HERE for details.
