10 Things to know from QFF – 30 January 17

  2. The ACCC has released its six-monthly Small Business In Focus report has found an 15% increase in agriculture-related complaints.See the full update with news on small business, franchising, and agriculture sectors HERE.
  3. Patience runs dry for Dirranbandi irrigators as the Murray Darling Basin Authority continues its push to claw back a further 38 gigalitres from the Northern Basin. Join the campaign to telling the government that ‘enough is enough’ HERE.
  4. QFF has welcomed new Biosecurity Industry Liaison Officer, Frank Fox to the team. The position is funded by the Queensland DAF to assist industry meet biosecurity risk management obligation changes.
  5. The ACCC is inviting dairy farmers to attend a public forum in Toowoomba (6/2/17)  in which the ACCC’s Dairy Inquiry will hear directly from dairy farmers about competition and fair trading issues. Details HERE.
  6. Quad bike safety is on the agenda at the two day National ATV Safety Conference conference is being held in Cairns (30-31/3/17). Industry and farmers are encouraged to attend. Details HERE.
  7. QFF Energy Savers is hosting an irrigation and energy efficiency field day with industry member Cotton Australia in Emerald this Thursday (2/2/17). Details and RSVP HERE.
  8. Places are running out at QFF & AgForce’s free pest management & chemical training workshops in Gympie (8/2) & Kenilworth (9/2). Details on these and other upcoming workshops HERE.
  9. The ACCC has backed growers role in processing sugar marketing talks. CANEGROWERS has since invited Wilmar Sugar & Qld Sugar Limited (QSL) to three-way meeting to resolve the current impasse. Statement HERE.
  10. The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) is forecasting that February to April rainfall is likely to be below average in eastern Australia and above average in north-west and the northern NT with the dividing line running east to west through Winton.
