10 Things to Know from QFF – 30 July 2018

  1. Through QFF-led Reef Alliance projects, the agricultural sector is taking positive steps to progress the recent Reef Restoration symposium’s aims and meet various targets in the revised Reef 2050 Plan and the Reef 2050 Water Quality Improvement Plan. QFF’s QCL column HERE.
  2. QFF has welcomed NAB‘s announcement that farmers can now offset their Farm Management Deposit (FMD) against their agricultural lending to help deal with varying income. More information HERE.
  3. Congratulations to University of Queensland student William Hudson who was awarded the inaugural Gary Sansom Prize in Agribusiness for 2017 this week. The prize recognised his achievements in agropreneurship and agricultural economics. Details HERE.
  4. Farmers affected by ex-tropical Cyclone Debbie recently learned how to improve their resilience for future weather events at workshops provided by QFF, the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM)and the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF).   6. Minister for Agricultural Industry Development and Fisheries Mark Furner last week announced the state’s total rural debt has reached $17.2 billion. Total rural debt has increased 1.6% since 2011, but the average debt per borrower is down 12% to just under $1 million. Details HERE.

  8. The University of Queensland is conducting an independent survey on trust in the Queensland Coal Seam Gas (CSG) Industry. This research seeks to understand the perspectives of key industry stakeholder groups, to have your say, click HERE.
