Common sense prevails in Chain of Responsibility Amendment Bill

The Queensland Farmers’ Federation (QFF) has welcomed the Environmental Protection (Chain of Responsibility) Amendment Bill which was passed by parliament last night with bipartisan support.

QFF CEO Ruth Wade commended the Government and Minister Miles for their consultative approach in guaranteeing that there would be no unintended consequences to landholders and farmers from this legislation.

“The Amendment Bill will give environmental regulators greater powers to pursue companies, entities and individuals who fail to uphold their environmental responsibilities whilst protecting landholders,”

“The Government has agreed and acted upon the common sense recommendations put forward by QFF during the consultation process and a meeting with the Minister that could have adversely affected farmers,”

“The Minister and Government have ensured that any implications of legislation that could have further and unintended consequences for our agriculture sector and regional communities have been fully addressed,”

“QFF will continue work constructively with all levels of government to represent the interests its industry members and the agriculture sector in Queensland,”

The Queensland Farmers’ Federation is the united voice of intensive agriculture in Queensland. It is a federation that represents the interests of 17 of Queensland’s peak rural industry organisations, which in turn collectively represent more than 13,000 primary producers across Queensland.
