Queensland Farmers’ Federation (QFF) has noted the appointment of Susan Madden to the Board of the Murray-Darling Basin Authority (MDBA), the principal government agency managing the Murray-Darling Basin.
QFF CEO, Ruth Wade, welcomed the experience in water policy and economics that Ms. Madden will bring to the role.
Susan Madden is currently GHD’s Principal Economist for Natural Resources & Agriculture based in Dubbo (NSW) and was previously the Executive Officer for regional farming group Macquarie River Food & Fibre for seven years.
“It is encouraging to see an appointment of a professional like Susan Madden who has worked for over 15 years, across both the private and public sectors,” said Mrs. Wade.
“Ms Madden will bring a pragmatic and practical approach to the complex issues around implementation of the Basin Plan and the ongoing responsibility of operating the River Murray system.”
“With all of the complexities around the Murray-Darling Basin Plan it is essential that we have Authority Members who understand the fine balancing act between the environment and our irrigator industry members’ interests to deliver a healthy system that supports productive industries and sustainable communities.”
“QFF is looking forward to working constructively with the Board and management of the MDBA as the Murray-Darling Basin Plan is rolled out.”
