Queensland farmers are encouraged to take advantage of an opportunity to recycle their used oil after waste management company J.J. Richards & Sons added a new location for free oil collections.
The company will now offer oil collections in the Charleville council area in addition to the Balonne, Goondiwindi, Western Downs, Southern Downs, South Burnett, Toowoomba and Lockyer Valley council areas.
Queensland Farmers’ Federation (QFF) President Stuart Armitage said the initiative had already collected over 30,000 litres of used oil from farms across the state.
“This program assists farmers to manage a difficult waste stream generated from farming operations and reduce its on-farm hazard potential,” Mr Amitage said.
“Waste oils can pose environmental harm if not adequately stored or disposed of and during natural disasters including flood and fire can pose significant health and safety risks.”
“QFF has been working with farmers and rural communities to recognise the importance of farm sustainability and to grow and develop the resource recovery sector in Queensland.”
“The agricultural sector is moving towards adopting a circular economy. We continue to strive for innovative and practical solutions to better manage farm waste that can enhance our land and natural resource stewardship responsibilities.”
“QFF extends its gratitude to J.J. Richards & Sons for supporting this aim and providing this service.”
