- QFF and Queensland Fruit & Vegetable Growers (QFVG) welcomed last week’s announcement that the Queensland Government has accepted all recommendations from the Supermarket Pricing Select Committee report, including the appointment of an interim independent Queensland Food Farmers Commissioner for a period of 12 months. - Canegrowers have pushed back on ill-informed and disappointing suggestions that farmers are to blame for Australia’s feral pig problem, while calling for better funded, resourced and managed efforts from State and Federal governments to control the exploding feral pig population. Read more here.
- Farmers and small business have joined forces to raise concerns regarding the Government’s proposed superannuation changes, warning they will adversely impact thousands of hardworking Australian families and small businesses. Read more here.

- In-person forums are available as an opportunity to engage directly with representatives from the Department of Home Affairs on issues surrounding Australia’s Regional Migration Settings, including the Working Holiday Maker (WHM) visa program, which are currently under review. Queensland sessions are running in Bowen, Cairns, Townsville and Gympie in the first week of September.
- Telstra have announced that they will extend the closure of their 3G networks to 28 October 2024 and conduct a public safety awareness campaign. The National Farmers’ Federation have welcomed the announcement urging people to get prepared.
- BDO has created a series of resources designed to inform and support primary producers in understanding the implications of carbon farming opportunities.
- Phillips Group is researching farmers’ experiences with planning for drought, including the farm business resilience plan approach on behalf of the Department of Environment, Science, and Innovation. Learn more and express your interest here.
