10 Things to Know - 2 February 2026

  1. The NFF Horticulture Council and Queensland Fruit & Vegetable Growers have welcomed the Australian Government’s announcement of an independent review of the Horticulture Code of Conduct, describing it as a timely opportunity to strengthen fairness and transparency for growers across the supply chain.
  2. Queensland’s sugar industry has launched a new voluntary on-farm emissions calculator through Smartcane BMP, helping growers helping growers protect and grow international markets, and unlock better financing terms for their businesses. Developed by CANEGROWERS, the tool measures whole-of-farm emissions using internationally aligned methods, with growers retaining full control of their data. Read more here.
  3. Merrilong Agricultural Company, the 2025 Bayer Cotton Growers of the Year, will host the Australian Cotton Grower of the Year Field Day at Spring Ridge on Wednesday 18 March. The event will highlight how resilience, teamwork and communication support decision-making in a multi-generational farming business, with a farm tour and panel discussion. Read more here.
  4. South West Queensland will receive a $15 million flood resilience boost, with new levee design work for Thargomindah and upgraded floodways in Quilpie Shire to better protect farming communities and critical access routes after the 2025 floods. Read more here.
  5. Queensland’s Community Bee Innovation Fund is supporting new projects to strengthen varroa mite management and protect pollination-reliant industries. Applications for the final funding round of the DPI-funded grants are now open. Read more here.
  6. The Rural, Regional and Remote Queensland Women Survey 2026 is now open, giving women across Queensland the chance to share their experiences, priorities and outlook for the future. Through the Farm Business Resilience Program, QFF is inviting producers to take part in a two-part masterclass with family business consultant Marina Skinner, focused on strengthening business values, vision and strategic clarity.
