  1. Emerald cotton grower Aaron Kiely has been elected President of the Queensland Farmers’ Federation (QFF), succeeding Allan Dingle who is stepping down following completion of his four-year tenure in the role. Read the full media release here.
  2. RCS Australia are hosting a free one-hour webinar on Thursday, 23 November featuring a lively conversation between agricultural entertainer and RCS Senior Advisor Nic Kentish and RCS and CarbonLink founder Dr. Terry McCosker OAM.   3. Following severe hailstorms that caused $50 million worth of damage to agriculture and infrastructure in the Lockyer Valley, Queensland Fruit & Vegetable Growers (QFVG) have shared a range of resources to utilise through the recovery period. Impacted farmers are encouraged to complete the DAF Natural Disaster Impact Survey and to bookmark the survey in the event they are impacted by any natural disaster during the upcoming season.
  4. Coming off the back of a difficult few years on the farm and with an uncertain horticultural season forecast for many regions in Australia, AUSVEG and Hort Innovation are hosting a webinar on Agriculture Resilience and Mental Health on Thursday, 30 November. Register here.
  5. Cotton Australia have issued a response to the Senate report on the Water Amendments (Restoring Our Rivers) Bill which has backed the Federal Government’s decision to put water buybacks back on the table and calls for the bill to be passed with some amendments. Read more here.
  6. The Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ), the peak body representing Queensland’s councils, has welcomed calls for more funding for roads and cuts to the red tape holding back local government from providing the liveability their communities deserve. Read more here.
  7. The Queensland Government is developing Regional Water Assessments (RWAs) across the State. Public consultation on the draft Southern and Darling Downs Regional Water assessment is open until Thursday 14 December 2023. You can view the draft assessments and provide your feedback here.
  8. Primary Industries Education Foundation Australia (PIEFA) have developed a new digital learning kit for primary and secondary educators to deliver learning experiences that explore technology/innovation in Australian food and fibre production. The kit contains information from industry bodies including Canegrowers, Cotton Australia, Australian Pork and more. Learn more here.
  9. Japan cannot get enough of Lakeland grower Shaun Jackson’s melons, and that has opened a lucrative market for the Queensland grower who has exported more than 250,000 melons this year alone. Read more here.
  10. The Australian Agricultural Traceability Strategic Reference Group (AATSRG) has now been established to help industry enhance traceability systems, helping to boost Australia’s biosecurity and grow trade relationships. Read more here.
