- Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced the Local Energy Partnerships Initiative at last week’s LGAQ 2023 Conference. The initiative is aimed at working with landholders and communities to ensure locals benefit from energy projects in their regions. The Partnerships initiative will also include the establishment of the first Community Leader Energy Councils to formalise channels for engagement on the first renewable energy zones and the remit of the GasFields Commission will be expanded to include renewable energy.

- Parliament has announced a Senate Inquiry into Red Imported Fire Ants (RIFA) and Varroa mite, which will examine the potential costs and impacts of the spread of RIFA across Australia. QFF and peak body members joined in calling upon all levels of government to come together to adequately fund the eradication of these pests which pose a significant threat to industry and communities.
