10 Things to Know – 9 December

  1. The National Farmers’ Federation (NFF) has welcomed a new report that places farmers at the centre of a re-invented food system following The Australian Food and Agriculture Taskforce handing down a report that warns the nation’s food system is at a tipping point. Read more here.
  2. The winning entry of QFF’s Queenslanders Can’t Live Without Campaign has been drawn. “I can’t live without my daily lunchbox of fresh fruit and vege. Fresh, clean and delicious! There is nothing better.” The Campaign, held throughout November, highlighted the food and agricultural products Queenslanders can’t live without. View entries to the campaign here.
  3. Australia’s sugarcane industry is set to benefit from a transformative $32.6 million investment in research and development over four years through a new initiative which aims to enhance productivity, sustainability, and innovation across the sector. Canegrowers recently participated in a series of key international meetings in London, strengthening Australia’s voice in the global sugar industry.
  4. QFF’s CEO recently spoke to the ABC’s Rural Report to discuss where farmers and landholders can go if they are considering, or have been approached, to host a wind or solar project on their land.   5. Latest figures released from ABARES shows the value of the Australian agriculture sector is headed towards $88.4 billion this year. It’s the second highest value on record, driven by high livestock prices and successful crop production.
  6. The Rotary FNQ Fields Days event will be held in Mareeba from 28 – 30 May in 2025. The 3-day agricultural showcase is the largest field day in Northern Australia. To find out more about the event and how you can get involved, click here.
  7. The Queensland Renewable Energy Council (QREC) has welcomed Queensland Treasurer and Minister for Energy David Janetzki’s confirmation of the state government’s support for affordable, reliable, and sustainable renewable energy at QREC’s recent Energy Connect Forum in Brisbane. Read more here.
