  1. The current drought has led to a greater desire to buy local produce and if need be, pay a bit more for it. If this can be sustained, consumers will continue to play an active role in building more resilient farming businesses and rural communities. QFF’s QCL column HERE.
  2. QFF has welcomed announcements from Westpac and ANZ that they will now allow farmers to offset money held in Farm Management Deposits against their agricultural lending. QFF’s media statement HERE.

  4. Sunrise recently spoke to QFF’s Ross Henry about drought-affected farmers before visiting Growcom and Queensland Dairyfarmers’ Organisation members on a road trip out west.   5. QFF, its industry member Cotton Australia and the New South Wales Irrigators’ Council are encouraging farmers to share their experiences around securing affordable electricity. Have your say by completing the online survey HERE.
  6. The latest Reef Alliance: ‘Reliable Five’ is now available! Stay up-to-date with the latest reef news and events including the 2018 Reef Champion Awards, the Tropical Water Quality Hub’s project combatting gully erosion and the upcoming Reef Pecha Kucha event in Townsville. Details HERE.
  7. Recent climate and weather workshops organised by QFF with the Bureau of Meteorology and the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries provided farmers with tools to better understand the daily forecast. Make sure you’re across all the information the forecast contains HERE.
  8. Since 1876, the Royal Queensland Show (Ekka) has brought the country and the city together for a true celebration of agriculture. Nursery, flowers, horticulture, cane, dairy and cotton are all on show at the Ekka this year, see details on how you can see exhibits by QFF industry members HERE.
  9. There’s been a rich harvest of new employment opportunities in agriculture, forestry and fishing in the past 12 months. Agriculture Minister Mark Furner announced last week that the sector created 10,500 new jobs between June 2017 and June 2018. More details HERE.
  10. Passionate innovators and key influencers in the agriculture are encouraged to nominate for the 2018 Peter Kenny Medal and the Minister’s Emerging Leader’s Award. The successful recipients will be announced on National Agriculture Day on 21 November 2018. Apply HERE.
