10 things to know from QFF – 18 April 17

  1. The Palaszczuk Government has provided more than $20 million in assistance to Queenslanders affected by Cyclone Debbie. More than 50,000 grants have already been delivered. See the Communties Minister’s statement HERE.
  2. The Bureau of Meteorology has revealed there is around a 50% chance of an El Nino developing in the second half of this year, counting for twice the normal likelihood. QCL article HERE.
  3. Australia’s second largest miller Mackay Sugar Limited has announced it will sell Mossman Sugar Mill in Far North Queensland to help offset its debt crisis. ABC article HERE.
  4. QFF president Stuart Armitage is calling on the State Government to remove regulation restricting the transportation and utilisation of manures in an effort to power Queenland agriculture’s biofuture. QCL column HERE.
  5. The SA Government has proposed $115 million to extend a recycled water pipeline in North Adelaide . The project is seeking $45.6 million from the Federal Government to boost exports and create 3,700 jobs. ABC article HERE.
  6. QFF industry member Growcom participated in the Food Heroes froum at Koala Farms in the Lockyer Valley last week which gave insight into lettuce and broccoli production. The next forum on the dairy industry will be held in May.
  7. Primary producers can now apply for grants of up to $25 000 in aid from Cyclone Debbie. See the list of regions with access to Category C funding HERE.
