  2. The Electrical Safety Act 2002 aims to prevent death, injury and destruction to property caused by electricity. The Act applies to all workplaces in Queensland, including farms and other rural businesses. Read more about this legislation from QFF corporate partner Holding Redlich HERE.
  3. The Bundaberg irrigation scheme, after three years of drought and despite recent rain, will likely start the water year in July with allocations of no more than 30 percent. A lack of rain and water released to make Paradise Dam safe means there is now more horticulture established than water available to grow it. Read more from QFF industry member Growcom HERE.
  4. The Queensland Electricity Users Network is carrying out a survey to understand how business power bills and the Cairns regional economy will be impacted now that JobKeeper has ended. The survey has been extended until Wednesday, 21 April 2021. Have your say HERE.
  5. Recent floods across the state have impacted farmers that store agvet chemicals. To assist, Chemclear are facilitating a chemical collection in Queensland in July and August. If you have any unwanted chemicals for collection, register by 13 June HERE.
  6. Providing a work car to your employees can be a great incentive. If you provide a car to an employee for their private use, you may need to pay fringe benefits tax. If you’re not sure if you’re providing a car fringe benefit, the Australian Taxation Office‘s virtual introductory sessions can help. More information HERE.
  7. Southern Queensland and Northern New South Wales farmers and communities’ preparedness for drought will be transformed with the opening of a Drought Resilience Adoption and Innovation Hub at the University of Southern Queensland. More information HERE.
  8. The Queensland Government has announced the Southern Downs Drought Resilience funding package to solve long-term water security issues in the region. The package intends to unlock new water sources, upgrade critical infrastructure and lay the groundwork for the Toowoomba to Warwick pipeline. Details HERE.
  9. In the lead up to the winter harvest, a range of seasonal agriculture jobs are ripe for the picking across Queensland, with working-holiday makers and Queenslanders seeking employment encouraged to work and explore their way around the state. Now’s the time to #pickqld with the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries HERE.
  10. During recent testing of pork products seized at international mail centres at Brisbane, Perth, Sydney and Melbourne, 24 per cent of all samples tested positive for African swine fever. It is imperative that all suspected breaches are reported to Biosecurity Queensland immediately. More HERE.
