10 Things to Know from QFF – 24 May 2021

  1. Queensland farmers are encouraged to apply for funding for drought-proofing works after the state and federal governments partnered to extend the On-farm Emergency Water Infrastructure Rebate Scheme. Read QFF’s media statement HERE.
  2. Smart energy grid research has commenced across four farming regions in Queensland and New South Wales to uncover practical, replicable, and high impact microgrid scenarios for Australian agriculture. Read more HERE.
  3. Many irrigators will not benefit from proposed water price discounts as the 2019/20 price freeze comes to an end on 30 June 2020. While irrigators this year will be paying the 2020/21 prices, not the 2021/22 prices as successfully advocated by QFF, the price increases offset the proposed savings. QFF Water Policy Advisor Sharon McIntosh recently spoke to the Queensland Country Hour about the state government’s clarification that nuts, turf, flowers and nursery growers will have access to a 50 per cent price reduction election commitment for horticulture irrigation water users.
