10 Things to Know from QFF – 25 March 2019

  1. From a seed sown in the classroom, Queensland high school students are growing their agricultural careers with a new video showcasing some of the many and varied career opportunities offered by the sector. Check out the video HERE and read the QFF media release HERE.
  2. After attending the Deputy Prime Minister’s release of a CSIRO report into the Inland Rail project in Brisbane last week, QFF is calling for the state government to get on board, or risk leaving Queensland’s agriculture sector behind. Read the media release HERE.
  3. QFF has questioned the Queensland Government’s ability to represent all Queenslanders after it cancelled public hearings on the new reef catchment regulations in the regions the legislation will impact. Read the media release HERE.
  4. Farmers continue to see opportunities in the renewable energy sector – all that is needed now is for the regulatory and policy setting to be an enabler and not a constrainer. Read QFF’s QCL column HERE.
  5. QFF industry member, the Queensland Dairyfarmers’ Organisation has welcomed news that Coles and ALDI will effectively cease sales of $1 milk to support struggling farmers. Read their media statement HERE.

  8. Congratulations to Natasha Roebig who recently received the 2019 Queensland Rural Women’s Award. The co-founding owner of Bee All Natural plans to use the $10,000 bursary to establish a Beekeepers’ training facility. More information HERE.
  9. The Bureau of Meteorology has revised its ENSO Outlook to “El Niño Alert” meaning the chance of an El Niño forming during Autumn is now 70 per cent or roughly three times the normal risk. Check out the Farmer Disaster Support website HERE for more information.
  10. QFF’s Dr Georgina Davis will be speaking at the 2019 Waste Strategy Summit in Sydney this June. The Summit will present waste management in its entire complexity with a strong focus on policies and regulations. For more information click HERE.
