10 Things to Know from QFF – 26 October 2020

  1. Queensland farmers have been provided an opportunity to recognise, value and monetise the critical actions they undertake to integrate sustainable practices and provide clean water to the Great Barrier Reef through a world-first Reef Credit Scheme. Read QFF’s media statement HERE.

  5. QFF and industry member Queensland Dairyfarmers’ Organisation have been working together to request a change to the Department of Environment and Science’s End of Waste Code relating to tyres to ensure dairy farmers and other farmers using tyres for storage are covered. Read more HERE.
  6. QFF industry member CANEGROWERS has welcomed as a win a new option to help Queensland irrigators manage high electricity costs but says more work is needed to fix all the issues in the power pricing system. Read the media statement HERE.

A report by the Cooperative Research Centre for Developing Northern Australia, James Cook University and Charles Darwin University, titled ‘Reframing Smart Supply Chains in Northern Australia’, has highlighted a number of areas for improvement if the significant potential for economic growth is to be capitalised on.   9. The exotic pest fall armyworm has been detected in the Lockyer Valley, St George and Chinchilla. Be alert but not alarmed. If you think you’ve seen fall armyworm, take some photos and call Biosecurity Queensland on 13 25 23 or speak to your local biosecurity or extension officer. More information HERE.
