10 Things to Know from QFF – 2 December 2019

  1. The winners of the 2019 Reef Champion Awards have been announced, shining a light on farming, extension and community leaders who are working to reduce their impact on the Great Barrier Reef. Read the media release and meet the winners HERE.
  2. There is a strong case for a more consistent approach that provides exemptions for small scale on-farm composting activities that complement agricultural production. Read QFF’s Queensland Country Life column HERE.
  3. QFF industry member Growcom has announced Belinda Adams as the organisation’s new chairwoman following her election at their annual general meeting recently. Ms Adams said she was proud to take over the reins from former chairman Les Williams. Details HERE.
  4. QFF corporate partner Telstra recently announced the regional centres that will be among the first cities in Australia to have access to 5G connectivity. Residents in Bundaberg, Cairns, Rockhampton, Townsville and Ipswich can check their 5G access HERE.
  5. Primary producers and small businesses impacted by the North and Far North Queensland floods earlier this year now have until 28 February 2020 to apply for recovery grants. The grants are also now available in Charters Towers and the Shire of Etheridge. Details HERE.
  6. The Department of Natural Resources Mines and Energy is seeking feedback on Proposals for strengthening non-urban water measurement consultation paper. Have your say by making a submission HERE before Friday, 13 December.
