More than 300 guests attended The Queensland Farmers’ Federations’ (QFF) annual National Agriculture Day Breakfast at the Royal International Convention Centre in Brisbane. The event featured keynote speaker, Queensland Premier Hon David Crisafulli, who reflected on his first 12 months in office and shared his vision for the future of agriculture in Queensland.
QFF and its peak body members – including Cotton Australia, CANEGROWERS, Queensland Fruit & Vegetable Growers (QFVG), Greenlife Industry Queensland (GIQ) and eastAUSMilk – joined producers, industry leaders and key decision-makers from across the state and country to celebrate National Agriculture Day, highlighting the vital contribution agriculture makes to Queensland’s communities, economy and way of life.
The Premier emphasised the central role of agriculture in driving regional development, strengthening the state’s food, fibre and foliage security and supporting Queensland’s economy.
The Premier also discussed the future of agriculture in Queensland including the tremendous opportunities available through emerging industries including biofuels, as well as new varieties, and the Olympic opportunity and what it means for Queensland’s farmers.
Ms Sheppard acknowledged the strong turnout from industry, ministerial guests and stakeholders including Queensland Members of Parliament, including the Hon Tony Perrett MP, Minister for Primary Industries, Australian Senators Susan McDonald and Anthony Chisholm, Federal Assistant Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, and National Farmers’ Federation President Hamish McIntyre.
“National Agriculture Day provides an important moment each year to recognise the essential work of our farmers, celebrate their contribution to Queensland and Australia, and highlight the opportunities ahead as the sector continues to evolve,” Ms Sheppard said.
Earlier in the week QFF held its Annual General Meeting in Brisbane, noting key achievements for the 2024–25 year and confirming board appointments for the year ahead.
QFF’s Board and Council also met in Brisbane with QFF CEO Jo Sheppard noting the strong governance underpinning QFF’s role as the united voice of agriculture in Queensland.
“Our Board comprises respected industry leaders who bring deep expertise, experience and perspective to the issues shaping Queensland agriculture,” she said.
“The QFF Board, peak body members and our staff work together to build a culture of trust and a place where people genuinely want to work together for the good of agriculture and the 13,000 farmers we collectively represent on behalf and alongside of our peak body members.”
QFF also released its 2024–25 Annual Report, outlining the organisation’s advocacy achievements, project outcomes and strategic priorities across the past financial year.
The Annual Report is now available online here.
