Every year, the Royal Queensland Show, or the Ekka, reminds us of the vital connection between the city and the bush. With the theme Country Spirit, City Heart, this year’s Ekka celebrated the people, places and products that make Queensland’s agriculture industry world-class.
We were proud to support our members, CANEGROWERS and Cotton Australia, with their impressive displays in the Agricultural Pavilion. These displays gave visitors the opportunity to learn where their food and fibre comes from through virtual reality headsets and other interactive elements.
QFF, CANEGROWERS and Greenlife Industry Qld attended the launch of the Prosper 2050 Blueprint, alongside the Queensland Premier and Minister for Primary Industries, the Hon. Tony Perrett MP. QFF and our members will continue to engage throughout the next stage of the blueprint as five year regional and industry-specific action plans are developed to deliver on the vision of Prosper 2050.
During the show, QFF also hosted our annual Celebration of Queensland Agriculture networking event. This year’s event was held at Parliament House, bringing together QFF, our peak body members, industry leaders and key stakeholders from across the state and country.
Guests included representatives from our peak body members, QFF’s corporate partners, and ministerial guests including Federal Minister for Agriculture the Hon. Julie Collins MP and Queensland Minister for Primary Industries the Hon. Tony Perrett MP.
The Hon. Ann Leahy MP, Minister for Local Government and Water, the Hon. Steve Minnikin MP, Minister for Small and Family Business , the Hon. Pat Weir, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly and Senators Susan McDonald and Anthony Chisholm were also welcome attendees at the event. It was a fitting opportunity to reflect on the breadth and depth of our sector and the collaborative work that keeps it strong.
With more than 400,000 people attending the Ekka each year, it continues to be one of Queensland’s most powerful platforms for showcasing agriculture. We thank the RNA and all involved for their efforts in making this year’s event a success – and acknowledge our members, exhibitors and volunteers for proudly flying the flag for Queensland farmers.
